Lac Hoang

What is your full name?

Lac Hoang.

What is your first name?

Lac.

Where were you born?

Hanoi, Vietnam.

Where do you currently reside and work?

Saigon, Vietnam.

What is your educational background?

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Columbus College of Art and Design.

What are other experiences that have led you to your current work?

I have been a full-time commercial art director for five years, transitioning from independent art practice in the mediums of photography, video and drawing to commercial roles in virtual production and luxury events in 2021. My next role is Content Integration Lead at Bloomberg Businessweek Vietnam, leveraging my multimedia art direction expertise.

How would you describe your practice?

My focus has shifted from independent creative work to managing creative teams. Before 2021, I combined art direction, photography, and styling for self-initiated, commercial, and editorial fashion and lifestyle projects. Now, I am dedicated to optimising creative processes and empowering teams to produce exceptional work efficiently, mostly in a commercial context.

What are the highlight projects in your career so far?

I art directed and shot the "Double Burden" photo campaign in collaboration with Chula Fashion House (Vietnam). I also art directed the virtual (interior) environment for the short film TRAP, produced by X3D Studio & Refinery Media (Singapore). In addition, I art directed Nina West’s Supercut music video

Are there any upcoming projects that you are excited about?

When not at my full-time work, I hope to work on a series of physical paintings, using references from AI-generated images. The series explores the mythical symbolism of chimera: a half-human, half-animal figure.
